Ostrolenk Announces Win in Patent Case for Client Universal Remote Control

Ostrolenk is pleased to announce a significant victory for client Universal Remote Control, Inc. (“URC”) in a patent infringement action started by Universal Electronics Inc. ("UEI") in 2012 in the Central District of California.   UEI originally asserted four patents.  After a two week trial, the jury ruled in URC’s favor on all claims and affirmative defenses, including noninfringement, invalidity, and unenforceability. The jury also determined that UEI was guilty of patent misuse and unclean hands. Ostrolenk lawyers Douglas A. Miro, Michael Hurley, Keith Barkaus and Larry Rosenthal represented URC throughout the litigation.

Ostrolenk Faber Wins Decision In a Suit Against LEGO Barring Assertion of Defamation Claim Against Corporate Officer

In Lego Systems v. Best-Lock Construction Toys, Ostrolenk Faber successfully defended our client’s chief executive officer from a charge of defamation.  The case was filed by Lego in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut against firm client Best-Lock.  Read More

ROBERT C. FABER AND STEPHEN J. QUIGLEY WILL SPEAK AT THE 2010 ANNUAL MEETING IN CHICAGO OF THE ASSOCIATION OF PATENT LAW FIRMS

On September 30, 2010, Firm partner Robert C. Faber and Of Counsel Stephen J. Quigley were speakers at the 2010 Annual Meeting in Chicago of the Association of Patent Law Firms.

Mr. Faber moderated a panel that examined the current state of patentable subject matter following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Bilski v. Kapos.  Mr. Quigley presented "Avoiding Bad Faith and Fraud in the Trademark Rights Cycle."

STEVEN M. HOFFBERG, JOINS NEW YORK IP BOUTIQUE OSTROLENK FABER LLP

Steven M. Hoffberg is partner of Ostrolenk Faber, LLP, New York, NY.  Mr. Hoffberg is a member of the Bars of New York and Connecticut, registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to practice before both federal and state courts.  Mr. Hoffberg is an active member of the Licensing Executive's Society and a frequent speaker at its conferences.

Mr. Hoffberg attended the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, New York, NY, graduating with a J.D. Magna cum Laude, where he was a member of the Law Review.  Mr. Hoffberg holds an M.S.E.E. from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, specializing in Automated Control Systems (Dr. Miachael Danchak, thesis advisor, Electrical Engineering, thesis topic: “Computerized Hazardous Gas Monitoring System); an S.M. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Human Nutrition and Metabolism (Dr. Robert Langer, thesis advisor, Biochemical Engineering, thesis topic: "Immobilized Heparinase Blood Filter", Dr. Robert Linhardt, Post Doc mentor), an S.B. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Applied Biology (Dr. Richard J. Mr. Hoffberg specializes in Patent and Trademark, Computer law, Technology Transfer and Licensing, Internet and other technological issues, for both large and small entities.  Mr. Hoffberg assists clients in many aspects of startup businesses, including employment agreements, consulting agreements, licenses and technology transfer, corporate structuring, technology development and outsourcing, and marketing.  Mr. Hoffberg also works with mature companies to develop and implement intellectual property strategies.  Where necessary, Mr. Hoffberg represents clients in Federal and State courts, and United States Patent and Trademark Office tribunals. Robert C. Faber Panelist on: Bilski v. Kappos: Did the Supreme Court Get it Right? Landmark or Question Mark?

On July 1, 2010 Robert C. Faber, senior partner of Ostrolenk Faber LLP, was a distinguished panelist during a presentation on Mondays U.S. Supreme Court Decision in Bilski v. Kappos. The presentation was hosted by the Association of Patent Law Firms ("APLF").

During the presentation, Mr. Faber discussed the path leading to the Decision and key findings. Mr. Faber also provided helpful suggestions for drafting patent claims in light of Mondays Decision.

MICHAEL HURLEY, AN IP LITIGATOR, JOINS NEW YORK IP BOUTIQUE OSTROLENK FABER LLP 

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - Michael Hurley, a well respected intellectual property litigator, has joined Ostrolenk Faber LLP, as a Partner.

Mr. Hurley focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation in cases involving the assertion and defense of IP rights, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation. He represents clients in jury and non-jury lawsuits, and has successfully taken cases through appeal in numerous actions.

Mr. Hurley has practiced as an intellectual property lawyer for more than 20 years, counseling clients in a wide range of industries and technical disciplines, including laser imaging, industrial materials, medical devices, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals and computer hardware and software. He advises clients on a variety of issues related to the acquisition, protection, and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Mr. Hurley also counsels clients concerning intellectual property asset management and licensing.

Mr. Hurley is formerly of McDermott, Will & Emery, LLP in New York, where he was a partner in the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Group. He received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. in Environmental Science, with distinction, from the University of Virginia.
